On Pīnyīn (拼音)

汉语拼音 (Hànyǔ Pīnyīn) is the official system to transcribe Chinese characters into Latin script in Popular Republic of China, Republic of China (Taiwan), Singapore and Malasya. The complete first version was published and adopted in the Popular Republic of China in 1958. 拼音 was adopted in 1982 «International Organization for Standardization (ISO)» as the standard method for romanization of modern Chinese. The United Nations followed that adoption in 1986.It replaced older systems, like the Wade-Giles system, which is found frequently in older publications and translations abour Chinese Martial Arts.
In this blog I use 拼音 as extensive as possible. On occasions, when a different romanization is widely used, I will adopt that for clarity.
